International Education Week

The Annual Fall International Education Week will be held on November 13-17, 2017. Join ISSS in celebrating the diversity of the SJSU community through a series of events. Save the date and check this page regularly for updates on upcoming International Education Week events!

International Coffee Hour

Monday, November 13

12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Location: Student Union 1B

This week's theme is international board games. Come enjoy great company and conversation! This is a great opportunity to meet new friends from across the SJSU campus and around the world in a casual and comfortable environment. Free food and coffee will be provided. All students welcome. No registration is necessary. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services and Counseling and Psychological Services.

Country Flag Crafting

Monday, November 13

2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Location: MLK Library

Head over to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library to make a flag of your home country. In order to celebrate our multi-national student and city population, flags will be displayed in the library atrium. This event is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.

 

The Spartan's Guide to LinkedIn

Location: Student Union 4A

Listen as we discuss how you can build your brand, develop your professional network and launch your career by leveraging your LinkedIn presence. This information will be presented by Anshul Sharma, a former SJSU student who is currently working as a Software Engineer at LinkedIn. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services and Counseling and Career Services.

International Student Advising for Faculty & Staff

Tuesday, November 14

2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Location: Clark Hall, Room 547

What is a Form I-20? What is the difference between visa and visa status? Can international students work? Can they study part-time? Join this session to learn about the federal regulations and institutional policies international students are required to comply with while attending SJSU in order to maintain their F-1 immigration status. We will go through key immigration terms, important documents, how certain academic situations can impact  a student status, and the consequences violations of status have on both students and our institution. Presented by the ISSS office. Open to all SJSU faculty and staff.

 

Travel Signature Party

Wednesday, November 15

2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Location: Tower Lawn

Are you planning to travel outside the U.S. this semester or over the winter break? If you don’t already have a valid Travel Signature, you can get one on the spot at the Travel Signature Party! There will be FREE FOOD, a PETTING ZOO and other fun activities for students to enjoy while getting their documents endorsed for travel. Complete the EventBrite registration process to secure your spot. Complete and submit the online ISSS Travel Signature Request form no later than 11/08/17This event is sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services.

 

Library Henna Event

Wednesday, November 15

2:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Location: MLK Library

Henna is a temporary form of body art that has been used in many cultures for a multitude of different events, traditional ceremonies, etc. for a long time. Come celebrate these cultures by getting your own Henna body artwork. This event is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.

 

Study Abroad Party

Location: Tower Lawn

Join the Study Abroad and Global Education and Initiatives team out on the Tower Lawn to learn about study abroad opportunities and play games like World Jeopardy and Country Matching Games! This event is co-sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services and Global Education and Initiatives.

 

African Bracelet Making

International Quiz & Scavenger Hunt

Friday, November 17

1:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Location: International House- 360 S 11th St, San Jose, CA 95112

Challenge your knowledge in this team-oriented global trivia game! You are welcome to come in a group or on your own. Teams of 8 will be asked to answer questions on topics from around the world. Lunch and prizes free to participants! A scavenger hunt will take place during the day's activities and will include the exploration of downtown San Jose and SJSU campus.

H1-B Presentation

Friday, November 17

4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Location: Clark Hall, Room 222

Learn about the H1-B application process and an overview of other employment based visas. This information will be presented by immigration attorney, Nadia Yakoob. This event is sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services.

F-1 Employment Workshops

Every Thursday, 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Every Friday, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Location: Student Union West, International Student and Scholar Services Office

Join our International Student Advisors as they discuss different forms of work authorization available to F-1 visa holders. Students who plan to apply for work authorization are required to attend one of these workshops. Application forms will be handed out during the workshop. The workshop will end with a question and answer session.  

 

Change of Status Workshops

The first and last Tuesday of every month.

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Location: Student Union West, International Student and Scholar Services Office

This workshop is aimed at helping SJSU new or current students navigate the process of changing their immigration status to F-1. Attendance at the workshop is mandatory prior to submitting a change of status application to the ISSS. The workshop will end with a question and answer session.

 

Study Abroad Info Session

Various days, times, and locations

These sessions cover topics such as study abroad locations, eligibility, deadlines, courses, payments, academics, and more. They are a first step for interested students to learn more about the study abroad process and ask any questions they may have. If students still have questions after attending an information session, they may make an appointment with an Study Abroad Advisor.
