International Student Matters for Faculty and Staff

This workshop will address the manner in which immigration regulations require communications from faculty for international students to maintain their full time F-1 immigration status, and for students to access certain benefits, chiefly that of employment, inherent in their F-1 student status. There will be updates on recent developments, enrollment statistics and time for questions and answers. All colleges and departments are encouraged to send one or more faculty members and/or staff. No RSVP is required, seating is limited. Be sure to arrive on time. Light refreshments will be provided.

 

Finding Volunteer Roles, Internships, and Jobs Outside the U.S

Students will learn the benefits of international work experience, form personal goals for international work experience, find resources to research international economies, employers, and jobs, gain strategies and tools for international job/internship searching (including GoinGlobal) and discuss preparations for living and working abroad. This session will include presentations by professors about upcoming Faculty Led Programs and the last half hour will include a presentation about Study Abroad scholarship opportunities.

Sikh Turban Day

Presented by the Sikh Students Association

Founded in 2003, Sikh Turban Day is an international Sikh turban awareness campaign. Experience wearing a Sikh turban as the Sikh Students Association educates about—and promotes—Sikh turbans amongst children, non-turban-wearing Sikhs, and fellow non-Sikh citizens.

 

Visas for Professionals: Beyond OPT

Immigration Attorney Gali Gordon will present a workshop discussing options available to F-1 international students after graduation and OPT. The workshop will discuss H-1B, Green Card and other visa types.  No RSVP is required.  Please be sure to arrive on time.

International Games Day

Presented by the SJSU Library
11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., 2nd Floor Meeting Rooms and Classrooms

Come play games in the library! The SJSU Library will host a games day and have tabletop and video games including games made by SJSU students. Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day. IGD@YL is an all-day event hosted at libraries around the world. Our event is co-hosted with the San Jose Public Library and we will be partnering with Good Game San Jose (ggSJ). We have a huge selection of board games, video games, and party games for all ages. You are also welcome to bring any and all games that you want to play with others.
