Arrival Program Information
IPS offers a mandatory Arrival Program that provides a complete overview of the U.S. immigration regulations that must be followed for an F-1 international student to remain legally in the U.S. In addition, the Program provides supplemental information to assist international students with their transition to SJSU. The Arrival Program covers topics such as how to correctly transfer immigration status from another U.S. institution to SJSU and immigration regulations pertaining to both transfer students as well as students who have just arrived in the U.S.
Mandatory International Student Arrival Program
The Spring 2014 F-1 International Student Arrival Program is on Wednesday, January 15th from 8:30 to 12pm at the Student Union. Attendance is mandatory to clear your registration hold for Fall 2014.
If you have not submitted your immigration documents at IPS, please submit them as soon as possible. Failure to complete your required immigration check-in with IPS by the February 11 deadline may put you in violation of your legal F-1 student status.
Preparing for the Arrival Program
We recommend that all new students* check the following topics, prepare their questions and try to get some things done before the Arrival Program. Print out the To-Do List (pdf), go over the things you can do now and record important dates to remember.
Whether you have a major or you are undeclared or unsure, you should meet with an academic/department advisor.
How to register, schedule and deadlines, and what you need to know about holds.
Getting a student ID card, banking info, and how to obtain a driver’s license and/or an ID card.
International students are required to maintain adequate health insurance throughout the duration of their studies at the University. Health plans must be approved by the International Programs and Services Office. The University offers comprehensive low cost insurance through Anthem Blue Cross.
