Arrival Program Information

IPS offers a mandatory one-day Arrival Program on August 14, 2013 that was created to specifically help prepare international students for living in the U.S. and attending SJSU. The mandatory program provides a complete overview of the U.S. immigration regulations that must be followed for an F-1 international student to remain legally in the U.S.  In addition, the Program provides supplemental information to assist international students with their transition to SJSU. The Arrival Program covers topics such as how to correctly transfer immigration status from another U.S. institution to SJSU and immigration regulations pertaining to both transfer students as well as students who have just arrived in the U.S. In addition, there is an opportunity to learn about course enrollment and registration procedures; living and studying at SJSU, etc.

If you have not submitted your immigration documents at IPS, please bring them with you to the International Student Arrival Program. Failure to complete your required immigration check-in with IPS may put you in violation of your legal F-1 student status.

In addition to the mandatory International Student Arrival Program (August 14), undergraduate transfer students are required (ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS) to attend the Transfer Orientation program presented by SJSU Academic Advising and Retention Services prior to enrolling in classes. International students who cannot attend a Transfer Orientation for academic advising must contact the Next Steps Office directly either via their telephone number (408-924-2997) or email. The Next Steps Office will communicate with you regarding when and how that advising, and any required tests such as the ELM and EPT, will be provided for you prior to registration.

Preparing for the Arrival Program

We recommend that all new students* check the following topics, prepare their questions and try to get some things done before the Arrival Program. Print out the To-Do List (pdf), go over the things you can do now and record important dates to remember.

During the International Student Arrival Program, one day parking permits, costing $8.00, can be obtained at the pay stations available throughout the SJSU parking garages.

*Please note that undergraduate transfer students who have attended a Transfer Orientation prior to August 1 are not required to attend the August 14 Arrival Program.
