Transferring in, out, and changing degree level
If you are already studying in the U.S. and you have been admitted to SJSU, you will need to transfer your SEVIS record to SJSU. Please speak with your current International Student Advisor and ask them to transfer your record. You must provide the SJSU Transfer (In) Eligibility Form (pdf) to your International Student Advisor for completion.
You may transfer from SJSU to another school to complete your degree or to begin a new program. To do so, you will first need to be officially admitted by the other school. Once you have been admitted, you must submit the Transfer Out Form (pdf) to International Student Advising (ISA), along with a copy of your acceptance letter. If your new school has a Transfer-In Form, you should bring this to International Student Advising (ISA) as well. Be aware that not all schools use this type of documentation and that does not pose a problem with our process. You must start classes at your new school within 5 months of SJSU transferring your SEVIS record.
If you have completed a Bachelor’s degree at SJSU and have been admitted for a Master’s degree program, you will need to complete the attached Change of Academic Level Form (pdf) and submit it to International Student Advising (ISA) along with your SJSU Graduate Admission Letter. After you have submitted your form, the department of Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations, (GAPE) will create an I-20 for you at your new degree level. GAPE will email you when the new I-20 is ready to pick up at the Student Services Center
