   A career in Management
   Information Systems is a career
filled with opportunity. MIS is not
   an “easier” computer science or
   computer engineering program.
MIS is Business  + Technology. MIS
   students take the  same core
   business courses as other  business
students so they get a solid
foundation in areas like Marketing, Accounting, and Finance.

Core Technical Fundamentals

To this business base, MIS adds core technical fundamentals comprised of coursework in systems analysis & design, database management, networks and programming, along with a hands-on practicum on project management with a real-world sponsor from Silicon Valley and a capstone course in MIS management and strategy. Our classes integrate state-of-the-art professional technologies, like IBM's Rational Software Modeler and Oracle's database and business intelligence tools. And, we teach using instructional technology like Elluminate–to enhance the experience, provide online access, and improve learning.

In-depth Electives

MIS electives allow students to go into depth with advanced study in these areas or specialized subjects such as web applications, e-business, service systems management, and security.

Honors Program

And, our unique, award winning honors program provides the chance to work with other top students on a full scale 9-month project spanning two semesters.

Great Careers

Reflecting the value of combining business and technology, particularly here in Silicon Valley, MIS graduates typically rank at or near the top among the College of Business concentrations in terms of starting salaries as reported in the SJSU Career Center's Annual Salary Survey. MIS jobs range from traditional Information Technology (IT) Management to Technical Sales & Marketing, from the high-tech industry to transportation, government or financial services, from small family businesses & startups to industry behemoths.
