- Grow Your Career Skills
The SJSU IT Spartan Internship Program offers a number of ways that allow interns to acquire valuable career skills. For example, a well-known career development coaching expert, Richard Knowdell, offered interns career-skills coaching based on his famous career transition model, which consists of four stages: Assessment Stage, Exploration Stage, Focus Stage, and Implementation Stage.
With guidance from Mr. Knowdell, students completed assessments on four different areas (career/life values, motivated skills, occupational interests, and personality preferences) and discussed the results.
Afterwards, the manager of the program continued to coach the interns on the transition from the internship experiences with the SJSU IT department to their future off-campus internship or their permanent job, and how they may implement their career plans more effectively. SJSU Career Center associated director, Anita Manuel was invited for a series of practical job-seeking skills training. In addition, several industry guest speakers were invited to give the intern students exposure to the cutting-edge technologies, such as quantum computing, self-driving cars and clean energy.
The training evaluation results were presented at the International Asian Career Development Conference, May, 2018
