Faculty Web Space

Creating a Faculty Web Site
There are a few options for faculty desiring to have a faculty web page at SJSU.
1. Spartan Faculty Web Wizard (www.sjsu.edu/faculty_and_staff/faculty_pages/)
2. A www.sjsu.edu/faculty/ site
3. Space on a college or department server (as available)
4. Off-campus hosting

Whichever option is choosen it is strongly recommended that a Spartan Faculty Web Wizard account is created so that this system begins to truly function as a central repository of faculty links and contact information.

Spartan Faculty Web Wizard

If you can make a reservation or bank online then you can have a faculty web site.

The wizard uses the university's template and was developed to serve as a central repository of faculty contact information and as a simple non-technical solution for faculty to get a web site online, create course companion sites and place documents online for students to download.

To obtain a Spartan Faculty Web Wizard account complete the online form. Once the request form has been processed you will receive email confirmation that your account and a shell has been established along with documentation on using the system.

Faculty Web Space
For those faculty who prefer to actually develop their own site space on the university's server is also available. The URL to the site will be www.sjsu.edu/faculty/lastname/. To obtain server space and FTP access follow the following steps:

1. Obtain a UNIX account (www.sjsu.edu/unixaccounts/)
2. Once the account has been established use the online form to request server space.

Once server space and ownership has been established you will receive an email with confirmation and the necessary information needed to establish an FTP connection and access your site.

It is strongly recommended that a Spartan Faculty Web Wizard account is created so that this system begins to truly function as a central repository of faculty links and contact information. At a minimum the page would contain your contact information and links to your web site and links to your college and department.
