History & Mission

Justice Studies is high profile department at San José State University, located in the center of San José and the heart of Silicon Valley. The Department of Justice Studies has the distinction of being one of the first degree-granting programs in criminal justice in the United States. The department now prepares students to be competent justice professionals in a technologically complex and culturally diverse society. We also offer a specialized BS degree with a concentration in biological or chemical forensic science. The Master’s degree prepares students for more advanced graduate study, and for managerial and research positions in justice oriented organizations. The department currently has 11 full time faculty members, 16 lecturers, and over 750 majors. Our alumni are among the most prominent professionals in law, policing, nonprofit services, and related professions.
