Jewish Studies Library Dedication

Jewish Studies CollectionOctober 18, 2012, 5:30 P.M.

The dedication of our new Jewish Studies Collection on the fifth floor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library is now part of the library's Cultural Heritage Special Collections section. (See the floor plan below for location.)

The collection began with a generous donation of books by Temple Beth Torah Rabbi Emeritus Steven Kaplan. SJSU librarian Peggy Cabrera spent a year with the books, lovingly sorting and cataloging, preparing the collection for its new home. And Deans Kifer of the Library and Bienenfeld of the College of Social Sciences collaborated to ensure space for our holdings in the Cultural Heritage Collection of the library, home to several other ethnic studies collections.

At the dedication, Rabbi Kaplan spoke about the collection and offered a dedicatory blessing; Peggy Cabrera described her work preparing the collection. It was a warm and happy event. We invite everyone to visit our collection, browse a while, and celebrate an important step forward for our Jewish Studies Program.
