Jewish Studies Program
Jewish Studies seeks to help students explore the multicultural diversity and complexity of Jewish and Israeli culture, history, literature, religion, politics, philosophy, languages, art, and cinema as well as, throughout, to foster critical thinking within and across disciplines. As is true with any good learning, it seeks to enable learners to make the leap from knowledge to commitment and action.
An Interdisciplinary Program
Jewish Studies at SJSU is an interdisciplinary program crossing both the College of Humanities and Arts and the College of Social Sciences, and within them six departments: History, Religious Studies, English and Comparative Literatures, Hebrew language study, Art History, Political Science. See our fall program listings in the Jewish Federation's Guide to Jewish Silicon Valley.
Thanks to a generous gift from community member Sherri Sager, the Jewish Studies Program is able to award scholarships each semester to outstanding Jewish Studies students completing the minor program. Students are encouraged to download and submit the Sager Scholarship Form (PDF), along with an essay about the importance of Jewish Studies to you.
