CATS in Kinesiology

Cross/Aerobic Training Sessions (CATS)

CATS, the SJSU Employee Fitness Program, is available to staff and faculty at the University, for limited hours when not in use for student classes.

CATS is managed by students in the Department of Kinesiology as a non-profit service to SJSU employees in partnership with Associated Students, Campus Recreation. Fees charged to clients are used to support student assistants, pay for equipment maintenance, and purchase of new equipment.

This program was established to:

  • Provide a place for faculty and staff to exercise without competing with students for equipment and space, and
  • Provide an internship experience for Kinesiology major students.

Clients are able to exercise on a selection of aerobic equipment including:

  • Stairmasters
  • Treadmills
  • Elliptical Trainers
  • Recumbent bicycles

Equipment available for toning and strengthening includes:

  • Free weights
  • Barbells
  • Kettle bells
  • Body Masters Strength Equipment

The CATS program operates year round (Monday through Friday) in YUH 126. A student assistant supervises sessions. This assistant can help clients:

  1. Learn proper and safe use of equipment
  2. Plan an appropriate and adequate exercise program
  3. Safely use the equipment and progress in an exercise program
