Whether you're an athlete, a volunteer coach, school/recreation/YMCA-YWCA program coach, seasoned or new to coaching, our workshops are open to all.

We have an outstanding program that prepares you for National and State certification in addition to providing professional development courses designed with the youth sport coach in mind.

Our flexible module-based program enables you to select an area to focus on in a 10-hour weekend workshop format.

Our coaching certification and professional development courses are led by distinguished coaches and faculty well known for their expertise, passion, and commitment to your success.  Dynamic classes focused on current issues are designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of youth sport coaches.

With our diverse course offerings you will be able to quickly build mastery and confidence in areas of interest to you.  Whether your focus is national/state certification or professional development we provide a supportive environment and extraordinary opportunities to interact with top-notch faculty and coaches.

For each workshop completed you can earn 1 CEU


 

Courses - Summer 2013 (2-day workshops)

 

Coaching Principles

Conveys to coaches of all sports, through small group discussion lead by an experienced professional, the critical information needed to be an effective coach with current knowledge of coaching trends and issues.  Content includes communication/ motivation, teaching technical skills, physical training, psychology of sport, and management principles.  The focus is on youth sports and at the completion of this course participants will be prepared to take the ASEP National Certification Exam and the California Interscholastic Federation coaching certification exam. 

Strength and Conditioning for Athletes

Building on the fundamentals presented in the coaching principles course, this course provides coaches of all sports with the essentials needed to plan and implement cutting edge effective strength and conditioning programs for their athletes.  Content includes the development of strength, endurance, and flexibility both in-season and off-season.  In addition, the opportunity for direct feedback on your program will be incorporated.  The prerequisite for this course is the Coaching Principles Course or comparable course OR CIF/ASEP certification.

Sport Psychology

Building on the fundamentals presented in the coaching principles course, the sport psychology course focuses on the practical application of relevant up to date information such as motivation, personality, achievement, and competitive anxiety in order to enhance the skills of coaches of all sports.  Opportunities for in-class practice of techniques such as visualization will be incorporated. The prerequisite for this course is the Coaching Principles Course or comparable course OR CIF/ASEP certification.

Athletic Injury Prevention & Care

Building on the fundamentals presented in the coaching principles course this course focuses on current issues pertaining to equipment, facility, and training principles critical to the prevention of athletic injuries in addition to essential issues related to the care and recovery from athletic injuries.  Interaction with certified professionals in the field provides an exceptional opportunity to grapple with both chronic and acute injuries. The prerequisite for this course is the Coaching Principles Course or comparable course OR CIF/ASEP certification.

Training for Athletes with Disabilities

Building on the fundamentals presented in the coaching principles course this course provides for coaches of all sports an opportunity to delve into current issues and the key elements needed for success.  Content includes attitudes, knowledge, understanding, and application of movement principles specific to individuals with disabling conditions.  Questions specific to your individual program/athletes will be incorporated into the course. The prerequisite for this course is the Coaching Principles Course or comparable course OR CIF/ASEP certification.

Nutrition for Athletes

Building on the fundamentals presented in the coaching principles course this course provides for coaches of all sports contemporary information focused on the key role nutrition plays in the performance of athletes.  Content includes, nutrition principles pertaining to diet, fitness, training, and competition with time for feedback on specific questions/problems.  The prerequisite for this course is the Coaching Principles Course or comparable course OR CIF/ASEP certification.
