The Learning Assistance Resource Center is designed to guide students in the development of their academic potential and to inspire them to become self-directed, independent learners.
Tutoring services are provided by peer tutors for San José State University students in many introductory and advance courses taught at the university. Peer tutors are nationally certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Subject areas covered include English, Mathematics, Sciences, History, and Political Science. All services are offered to registered San José State University students free of charge.
Tutors work with groups of up to four students who are all from the same course. The groups are formed as students register for their appointments.

Tutors work with one student. This type of assistance is valuable for students who may be underprepared for or anxious about course materials, students with particular learning disabilities, and students who just need more concentrated assistance.

Drop-in tutoring provides assistance to students in specific courses who have only few questions about problems or course concepts.
Drop-in is on a first come, first-serve basis, with a 10-15 minute time limit and requires no appointment.
LARC offers preparatory lab and workshops for the Writing Skills Test (WST) for free. Contact the LARC office for detailed information and to register.
The Learning Assistance Resource Center is located on the corner of 10th Street and San Fernando Street in the Student Services Center (SSC 600). If you look at the campus map the Student Services Center is located in the top right corner.
The tutorial hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am until 5:00 pm and Friday, 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. (Please note that Student Services Center building closes at 4:45 pm Monday through Thursday and 4:30 pm on Friday and is closed on designated furlough days.)
