Scott AlkireScott AlkireScott Alkire earned a BA in English and an MA in TESOL from SJSU. His interests are in literacy, reading theory, and writing strategies.

 Kelly GloverKelly Glover has been teaching at SJSU since 1998. She earned her MA and Ph.D in Linguistics from the University of Durham, UK. Her primary interests include: pragmatics; conversation analysis; second language acquisition, teacher development & methodology.

Bonnie HsiaBonnie HsiaBonnie Hsia earned her BA in English with Honors, Certificate in TESOL, and MA in English from San Jose State University. She teaches developmental reading and writing classes at San Jose City College, as well as at SJSU. Her interests include languages, multiculturalism, and lifelong learning.
Barbara KaiserBarbara KaiserBarbara Kaiser earned an MA-Linguistics/TESOL degree from San Jose State in 1992 and completed further work in theoretical linguistics, specializing in phonology, at U.C. Berkeley. She also has an MBA. In addition to teaching in LLD, she regularly teaches in U.C. Berkeley's ESL Summer Institute.
Sharmin KhanSharmin KhanA native of Bangladesh, Sharmin Khan has taught at SJSU since 1996. She obtained a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy from the University of California, Berkeley. She is primarily interested in writing pedagogy, second language acquisition, and language planning in South Asia.

Valerie Basescu KiadehValerie Basescu KiadehUpon receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Valerie Basescu Kiadeh earned a TEFL Certificate at the International Teacher Training Institute in London and then taught EFL at the British Consulate in Tehran, Iran. She earned a Master’s Degree from UC- Berkeley in Near Eastern Languages and Literature and a second MA from SJSU in TESOL. She holds a Professional Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential (K-12 / adult), as well as a CLAD certificate.  She has taught at UC- Santa Cruz and the University of New Hampshire, as well as several high schools, and has served many years in all aspects of adult ESL. She has been teaching at SJSU since 2007.  Her interests include Intercultural Communication, Persian language and culture, and writing pedagogy.

Bobby McCluskeyBobby McCluskeyBobby McCluskey earned her Masters in TESOL with an emphasis in English for Specific Purposes in 2000 from San José State University. Her areas of interest are in pronunciation acquisition and retention, and the correct application of language rules in student essay writing. Besides being a lecturer at SJSU, she also teaches ESL at San José City College and ESP in various workplace environments.
Kevin MooreKevin MooreKevin Moore earned a B.A. in English and a TESOL certificate from California State University Sacramento, and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from U.C. Berkeley in 2000. His specialization is semantics, particularly lexical semantics, and within that, metaphor and metonymy. He also works on Wolof, which is spoken in Senegal and Gambia, West Africa.
Maureen O'BrienMaureen O'BrienMaureen O'Brien received her M.A. degree from the University of Hawaii. She has taught English and worked in teacher education and professional development in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa; has worked as a teacher/administrator at an immigrant and refugee center in Honolulu; and has been both an instructor and a program administrator at colleges and universities in several states in the United States. She is interested in the part that reflective writing plays in students' acquisition of academic literacy.

Kenneth VanbikKenneth VanBikKenneth VanBik earned his B.S. from University of Rangoon, Burma, a TESL Certificate from UC Berkeley Extension, and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from UC Berkeley in 2006. Ken grew up in a remote area of Western Burma, Chin Hills (part of the Himalayan mountain range). His major research and teaching interest include General Linguistics, Historical/Comparative Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Lexicography, and Tibeto-Burman Linguistics.
