A Female Student with Red Hair Smiling

B.A. in Linguistics

B.A. Linguistics students are introduced to the methods of analysis of human languages by a series of core courses that deal with the articulatory and physical properties of speech sounds, their organization in the speaker's mind, the structure of words and sentences, the expression of meaning in words, sentences, and texts, and the historical development of languages. These basic areas of linguistic analysis are supplemented by a series of elective courses that allow students to choose among a number of courses emphasizing the social and cultural aspects of language, the developmental and/or pedagogical aspects of a first or second language, or aspects of computational linguistics involving man-machine interaction on the level of speech processing and written text understanding.
