Calculus Placement Exam Information
Students who need to take the Calculus Placement Exam to meet the prerequisite for Math 30, 30P, 30PL and Math 71 can register starting the beginning of January. Students who already meet the prerequisites do not need to take the placement exam. Calculus Placement Exams will be offered again after Spring grades are posted.
General Testing Dates
The General Testing Dates below are open to all SJSU students (incoming frosh and transfer students as well as current SJSU students).
How do I register?
You can register online via the Online Registration Form. Registration confirmations are mailed within 1-5 business days.
Note: Online registration ends at 3:00 pm the day before the exam or when all the exam spots have been filled, whichever occurs first.
How can I prepare for the test?
An explanation of the material covered on each part of the test and a link to a practice exam can be found on the Preparation for the CPE page.
What do I need to bring with me?
On the day of the exam you will need to bring your confirmation email (a printout or a copy on your phone), photo ID (SJSU Student ID preferred), a pencil or pen, and the $20 fee in the form of cash or check--we do not accept credit or debit cards. No calculators are allowed on the test.
Should I bring my calculator?
What method of payment is accepted?
The $20 payment can be made in the form of cash or check. Checks should be made payable to San Jose State University (SJSU). Payment should be made on the day of the exam.
When do I get my scores?
An email is sent out within 1-2 business days of the test to let you know which class you place into. As soon as you get that email, you will be able to enroll in that class. If you have any issues enrolling, check out the Calculus Enrollment page.
CPE for Incoming Frosh Students
Incoming Frosh students are able to take the Calculus Placement Exam on any of the General Testing dates. They also have the option to take the placement exam on the morning of their first day of orientation. To sign up to take the exam on the first day of orientation, fill out the registration form, indicate that you are an incoming frosh student, and select your orientation date.
It is strongly recommended that incoming frost students take their placement exam either before their orientation or on the first day of orientation so that they will be able to register for the appropriate math classes during their orientation.
Calculus Placement Exams during orientation are on the first day from 7:30-9:30 am. You will not miss any orientation activities.
