Preperation for the Calculus Placement Exam (CPE)
Math 30, Math 30P, Math 60 and Math 71
To be placed into Math 30, Math 30P, Math 60 or Math 71 students need to demonstrate a basic knowledge of four years of college prep math, the same math covered in Math 19 Precalculus. Specifically the topics needed are college algebra, trigonometry and properties of elementary functions. To be placed inot Math 71, students need to demonstrate a basic knowledge of college algebra, the same math covered in Math 8. You should not have to prepare for the Calculus Placement Exam unless, you have been away from the study of mathematics for many years though a little bit of review certainly will not hurt. The exam is designed to test what you need to know on a daily basis to understand the content of Calculus. It is important to be well rested so that you can think well when you take the CPE.

To be eligible to register for Math 71 Calculus for Business and Aviation, students only need to pass the College Algebra portion of the CPE.
Required Math Workshops for Math 19, Math 30, Math 30P, Math 31, or Math 71
Students who register for Math 19 Precalculus, Math 30 Calculus I, Math 30P Calculus I with Precalculus, Math 31 Calculus II, or Math 71 Calculus for Business and Aviation must also register for a workshop (Math 19W, Math 30W, Math 31W, or Math 71W) at the same time. The workshops are a 1 unit (CR/NC basis) and require concurrent enrollment in Math 19, Math 30, Math 30P, Math 31, or Math 71. Voluntary workshops are also available for Math 8 College Algebra, Math 32 Calculus II, and Math 42 Discrete Math.
