Workshop Opt-Out Information
The opt-out request form is available below. Please read through all the information before filling out the form. Students are able to opt-out either before or after they register for the course.
Opt out Requests submitted before your registration date cannot be processed and may be deleted.
Information About Opting Out of the Workshop
Calculus Workshops for Math 19, 30, 30P, 31 and 71 are required co-Requisites, which means, in order to enroll in the class, you must also enroll in the workshop. If you are unable to take the workshop because of your schedule or because it puts you over your maximum unit cap, you may opt-out of the workshop. Before submitting an Opt-Out Request, please read the Math Department Workshops page for more information.
Opt outs for Spring will not be processed until your registration date. You will need to wait until after your registration date to submit an opt-out request.
Do I need to be enrolled in the class and the workshop before I opt-out?
No. You can fill out an Opt-Out Request either before or after adding your Calculus class.
When can I opt-out of a workshop?
During different Registration periods, the requirements to be able to successfully Opt-Out may be different. Please pay attention to the deadlines listed on the Opt-Out Registration Deadlines page and what additional items may be required during each of the Registration periods.
NOTE: PLAN AHEAD! We cannot guarantee that Opt-Out Requests submitted the day of a deadline will be processed that same day. If you wait until the last minute, you will probably miss the deadline.
How do I opt-out of a workshop?
Fill out the Online Opt-Out Request Form for the appropriate term (link(s) at the bottom of the page). It can take up to 2 business days to process Opt-Out Requests. After your request has been processed, you will receive an email with instructions on what you will need to do and possibly a permission number. Permission numbers must be used the same day they are issued. If you have any issues after you receive your email or you permission number has expired, please contact the Math Department as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the harder it is to resolve problems.
What if I am repeating the class?
If you are repeating the class, you will not be able to Opt-Out until you receive a permission number from the Instructor on or after the first day of classes. You will need to fill out the Opt-Out Request form and include your permission number in order to be able to add the class without the workshop. We recommend that students who have failed to pass the class take the workshop.
If this will be your 3rd or more time enrolling in the class, you will need to fill out the "Repeating a Course for More Than Two Times Petition" and obtain a permission number from the Instructor. After the instructor has signed, bring the petition to the Math Department Office for the chair to sign. You will also need to request a letter to opt-out of the workshop to bring to the registrar--do not submit the opt-out online.
For summer session, students repeating a class will need to fill out a paper registration form (found at the Summer Session website). You will need to bring the form to the Math Office to obtain a letter that will allow you to register without the workshop. This also applies to Open University students.
