ME Students Win ASME Awards
Great Showing at 2014 Regional ASME Student Professional Development Conference (4/4/14 - 4/6/14)
Dr. Winncy Du, the faculty advisor for the student ASME club, brought 7 students to Cal Poly SLO for the ASME-SPDC. They participated the oral (2 students) and technical poster (2 students) competitions and they all won the top two places. No web-design competition was hold this year in this regional event (total 150 people). A group of 5 SJSU-ME students participated the ASME design competition, but their UAV crashed (hit the wall) during the competition. Highlights include the following:
Jimmy Ma presented "Swarm Aerial Robotics Sensor Network for Wildfire Prediction and Firefighter Protection" and won the first place for the Oral competition. He will represent the whole western region to participate the international competition in November. The international competition will be in Montreal, Canada, during the ASME 2014 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition.
Ish Sanchez presented "Satellite Debris Collection using Electrostatic Technology" and won the 2nd place in the oral competition.
Jason Chin won the first place in the technical poster competition.
Ivan Chew won the 2nd place in the poster competition.
According to Dr. Du, "our students' high quality performance and presentation topics impressed all judges. They were so interested in the topics and asked many questions and gave our students very high and positive comments."
