National Science Foundation has a number of opportunities through its Summer Scholars Program including the Quality Education for Minorities Network and Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU). A number of SJSU ME students who took part in the REU program are now doing or have completed graduate work at prestigious universities. The application process for summer starts early! UC San Diego, in particular, invites SJSU students to apply for their NSF summer program related to designing for safety. Their applications are due Jan. 15. Posted 10/22/19

The Salt Miner -- This startup is looking at ways to remove salt from brine streams to prevent pollution of our water supply. They need someone with good hands on skills (building, testing, data acquisition) but who can also help them with the design with regards to best way to generate a vacuum and optimize a steam function. An ME or ChemE student with a background in both mechanical and thermal systems would be ideal. Courses like ME 120 and machine shop experience may also be helpful.
