Founded in 1857, San José State is the oldest public institution of higher education on the West Coast. From its beginnings as a normal school to train teachers for the developing frontier, SJSU has matured into a metropolitan university offering more than 134 bachelor's and master's degrees with 110 concentrations.
The University's partnership with NASA Ames Research Center also has a long a successful history. Cooperative research between university faculty and NASA scientists has been underway for approximately thirty years. In the last ten years alone, over $50,000,000 of NASA-funded research has been conducted by SJSU faculty and students. The Metropolitan Technology Center at NASA Research Park offers a wonderful location for increased students, faculty and scientists collaboration and the ability to work side-by-side in both laboratory and classroom settings.
