About Multimedia Production
Sam has been employed at San José State for over 17 years as a media production specialist, located in the Richard B. Lewis Instructional Resources Center. Since coming to SJSU, Sam has produced a couple of hundred audio-visual projects, including the popular annual Staff & Management Service Recognition Awards and the Tenured Faculty Service Recognition Awards. Sam has an academic background in English literature, philosophy, motion picture direction & production, film history, and instructional design & development. He has studied at the University of Alberta, the University of California at Los Angeles, and at San José State University. Prior to moving to California in 1987, Sam worked as a freelance film producer and production manager, a partner in a successful independent film production company, an educational film distributor, and a repertory cinema manager and program director. From 1979–82 he was instrumental in establishing Audio Visual Services for the City of Edmonton, Alberta, and was involved for two years in the architectural design and planning for the Edmonton Space Sciences Centre. This was followed by five years with the Province of British Columbia, primarily as a producer-director in Government Information Services, where he helped develop several major exhibits for the World Expo in Vancouver in 1986, as well as a/v programs for the Ministries of Human Resources; Industry & Small Business Development, Labour; Forests; Agriculture & Food; Energy, Mines & Petroleum Resources; Transportation & Highways; Tourism; Lands, Parks & Housing; Attorney-General; Office of the Speaker of the House; and Emergency Planning Canada.
