The word "muse" has meaning in addition to being the acronym for SJSU's first year experience program. The work also refers to nine Greek goddesses, referred to as the "muses." These nine Greek goddesses are Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania. The muses were considered to be an inspiration to artists and scientists.
