Using the Library
The San José State University Library
provides a wide variety of services and materials that will help you
complete your classwork and research assignments. The library is located
on campus on the corner of 4th Street and San Fernando Street across
from Bank of America.
The Library has:
- 475,000+ square feet
- 11 acres of space
- The building has a capacity of 2 million volumes
- 5 public elevators, escalators to the 4th
- 3,600 seats (more than double the combined seating of previous
library facilities)
- Over 1 million visitors served per year
- The Library is free and open to all - no identification or proof
of residency is needed to use or enjoy materials within the Library.
In the Library, you can:
- Watch, listen to, and check out videos, CDs, and DVDs.
- Find a table, desk, private study room or comfortable chair at
which to do your work.
- Check out library materials using your Library Card that you
must apply for.
- Read current magazines.
- Ask a librarian at the reference desk located on all eight floors
to help you with questions you may have about the using the library.
- Library Hours are always posted on the library homepage, at the
library's front door, and on each floor between the elevators.
