Spartan Alma Mater
Hail, Spartans, Hail!
Hail, gold, blue and white!
We pledge our hearts and hands

• “Spartans” - the nickname for SJSU students and alumni that was adopted by the student body in 1925.
• The Spartan Alma Mater (see above) is sung at graduation and other special events.
• Honors Convocation is held every spring semester to recognize students for their academic success in becoming Presidential or Dean’s Scholars.
• Tower Hall, built in 1910, is a well-known campus symbol.
• Homecoming is held as part of one of the fall football games.

  

The brick and tile design shown above is a historical, yet modern, representation of the SJSU campus. It depicts part of the red brick and Faience tile pattern from the front of Tower Hall, built in 1910, that has been stylized as a symbol of SJSU’s innovative future. You will find this distinctive mark and the SJSU logo on SJSU’s Web pages and publications.
