SJSU Honors Wind Ensembles 2019

We are once again hosting the SJSU Honors Wind Ensembles for high school students in September.

For 2019, we will be splitting into two separate bands!  One, will be the Wind Ensemble, will be limited to one on a part and conducted by SJSU Director of Bands, Dr. David Vickerman. While the other will be the Wind Symphony with multiple students on each part and conducted by SJSU Assistant Director of Bands, Dr. Craig McKenzie.

Both ensembles are created through your recommendations. After reviewing nominations, the selected students will come for an afternoon and evening rehearsal day (Sunday, September 15), followed by a dress rehearsal and concert one week later (Sunday, September 22).

The Honors Wind Ensembles will include at least one musician from each school/studio that fills out a nomination form, but band directors are encouraged to nominate as many students as they want as long as they feel confident that students can rehearse and perform at a high level. (Private studio teachers are guaranteed at least one student will be accepted as long as they nominate AT LEAST 3 students.) Selected students will pay a $50 fee for both days, which includes a commemorative T-Shirt, lunch and dinner on the first day, pizza on the concert day and all the music activities.

 


 

How to Nominate

  1. Verify that the students you want to nominate can commit to both days before nominating them.
  2. Click here and fill out a nomination form. This form is only to be filled out by band directors or studio teachers, not by students. Currently, there is no restriction on the number of students you may nominate. Just FYI: You will need the following information for the nominations:
    • Student Email and Contact Phone Number (mobile/cell preferred)
      • PLEASE double/triple check the emails for the students. This will be our primary method of communication and we want to make sure they don't miss anything!
    • Student Interest
      • Click Here for an optional form you can print to gather information about your students' interest. It is not required to have this info, but is helpful in our decision-making process.

NOMINATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY MIDNIGHT ON AUGUST 31.

*We ask that any student who expresses interest keep his/her schedule open in case they are selected. Students will be notified as soon as possible so that he/she can make plans ahead of time. The schedule is subject ot change, but it is not likely.
