Douglass Hull, French hornist, is a top Bay Area performer who has performed with many premier ensembles. He has played 16 seasons with the San Francisco Symphony and is principal horn of the California Symphony. Among his list of renowned teachers are two famed Chicago Symphony Orchestra hornists: Christopher Leuba taught him at University of Puget Sound, where he received his BA in Music, and Richard Oldberg taught him at Northwestern University, where he earned his MM in Horn Performance.
As a teacher, Professor Hull has shaped the musical lives of many young horn players while serving as a professor at CSU East Bay and at Mills College. In addition, his ten years as horn coach of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra provided a unique opportunity to prepare players for orchestral performing. He is new to the SJSU faculty and brings the Chicago school and San Francisco style into the horn studio.
