Scott Pierson came to San Jose State in 1978 as Assistant Marching Band Director. In 1983 he became the Director of the Spartan Marching Band. Mr. Pierson either composes or arranges all of the music performed by the band, and creates and writes all of the visual programs performed by the band.
His prior experience includes five years of teaching at Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose, eight years of brass, marching and color guard instruction with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps, three years of brass arranging and drill design with the Sacramento Freelancers Drum & Bugle Corps, two years with the Casper Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps, as well as writing arrangements for bands and drum corps throughout the United States. Mr. Pierson also spent two years as the outdoor entertainment coordinator at Santa Clara’s Great America theme park.
Mr. Pierson teaches a popular class required of music education major called “Marching Band Techniques.” Students are exposed to everything related to high school marching band in this course.
