How to Apply - Graduate

Admission to the University

Prospective students apply online to the both San José State University and the School of Music and Dance through CSU Mentor.  Please state your proposed area emphasis, and complete the personal statement.  All required transcripts and supporting documents must be sent directly to the University.

Apply at CSU Mentor

Applications open October 1 for the following fall semester.  The deadline for applications is May 1, and May 20 for all supporting documents.

Admission to the School of Music and Dance

The School of Music and Dance additionally requires:

  • Three letters of recommendation sent directly to the Graduate Coordinator
  • An audition, submission of a portfolio of work, and/or interview (depending on the area requirements) with the applicable area coordinator.

The School of Music and Dance does not require the GRE.

Three-Summer Master's Program in Music Education
