How to Apply - Undergraduate

The Undergraduate Application Process

Incoming students must fill out the standard application to the University and audition specifically for the music program in order to become music majors.

Application to San José State University:

Applicants must apply online for admission to San José State University and pay a $55 processing fee. Each applicant will receive a User ID and Password via e-mail about two weeks after the application is submitted. With those two items, the applicant may login at MySJSU and check his or her application status; be sure to check often, as MySJSU is Administration’s primary mode of communication. All academic transcripts must be sent to SJSU Admissions office.

Audition to Music Program

All students must audition for the professors of their preferred area. Audition guidelines can be found here. Incoming students may audition on the day before class begins, or on one of the dates available in the fall and early spring of each year. Contact the School of Music and Dance for dates.

*Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional skill in their performance medium. Unfortunately, due to monetary constraints, only those students who audition on the specified dates will be considered for scholarships. Please keep this in mind when choosing your audition date.
