Valley Foundation Grants The School of Nursing is Pleased to Announce the Receipt of Two Grants From The Valley Foundation. The first one year grant is funding a completely renovated School of Nursing Learning Resource Center Skills lab. It also enabled the School to update its computer lab with 20 new computers and workstations. Currently, the Skills Lab has relocated from the Health Building to the newly remodeled Clark Hall to allow the project to progress without delay. The Lab will be completely refurbished, including a new floor; paint, cabinets, window treatments, curtains dividing the stations, and linens. Equipment for the skills lab has been updated as well, to accommodate the actual working conditions of professional nurses in today’s clinical settings. For example, the new beds are the exact models used in most hospitals. Also, several clinical simulator mannequins have been purchased to enable students to observe human-like responses while being “treated” for their illnesses. The new Skills Lab demonstrates the dedication of the nursing faculty for quality, cutting edge nursing education for students. We want our nursing students to be exposed to the most current medical technology to instill the confidence needed as they enter todays complex work settings. We appreciate the generous contribution of The Valley Foundation that has enabled our Skills Lab transformation. The Lab will be formally renamed The Valley Foundation Nursing Skills Lab. The second Valley Foundation grant is a five year investment in the School of Nursing’s student enrollment. The grant allows for an additional twenty-two baccalaureate students to be enrolled in the School for five sequential semesters. The goal of the grant is to provide 100 additional graduates to enter the healthcare workforce within our community of Santa Clara county healthcare facilities by the year 2010. Currently, the San José State University School of Nursing provides the majority of baccalaureate educated nurses to the South Bay area healthcare facilities. In addition to increased enrollment, the grant is also funding the additional faculty and staff support needed for the incoming students. The Foundation’s support has been so helpful in ensuring the quality of education and service we strive to provide for all of our nursing students. The entire faculty and staff of the School of Nursing are so pleased to be offered the opportunity to provide relief to the current local nursing shortage and appreciate the efforts of The Valley Foundation to make this possible. We look forward to a strong future of continued growth and success. TOP |
