Program Description

The Valley Foundation School of Nursing at SJSU currently offers a Masters in Nursing in the Specialty Areas of Nurse Administrator, Nurse Educator, and (beginning Fall 2017) Family Nurse Practitioner*. Post Masters Certificates are available for the Nurse Educator option. The master's degree program at San Jose State University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( The CCNE awarded 10 year accreditation to the School in 2011. The University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

The Masters Essentials of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) is the foundation for the graduate curriculum. A blend of online and on campus coursework is offered. Our doctorally-prepared Tenured and Tenure Track faculty are dedicated to providing the very finest nursing education.

For Fall 2017, we are accepting applications for the Nurse Educator program and the Family Nurse Practitioner* program. Each of these follow a cohort model meaning all students accepted will take courses together on a full-time basis (7-9 units per semester). Courses are a blend of online and in person, and require attendance in person only one evening a week.

*This is contingent upon approval of the CSU Chancellor's office.

Tuition & Fees

The tuition fee for a full-time graduate student is about $4,400 per semester. There are lab fees for many of the courses. Students in the Educator option pay regular fees for 17 units and Special Session fees (currently $750/unit) for 19 units. Fees for the Family Nurse Practitioner* program have not yet been set.

*This is contingent upon approval of the CSU Chancellor's office.

The Fall 2016 application process is now closed.
