Under California state law, parking on a California State University campus is subject to a specific fee. To accommodate the diverse parking needs of our community; SJSU offers various types of parking permits and various parking locations. Employees and students have an option of either purchasing a semester parking permit or a single day permit to park at SJSU. Visitors may purchase a single day permit.  A valid SJSU parking permit is always required. Parking regulations are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. There is no grace period at the beginning of each semester. You must have a permit at the time your vehicle is parked.
There are three garages on campus in which students may park. These areas are designated as general parking. The South Garage is a five story parking structure located on the corner of South Seventh and East San Salvador Streets. The Parking Services Office is located in front of the South Garage on South Seventh Street. The West Garage is a five story parking structure located on South Fourth & East San Carlos Streets. The North Garage is a six story parking structure located on South Tenth and East San Fernando Streets. The Student Service Center is located on the ground floor of the North Garage.
Student "S" semester parking permits should be purchased on-line with a credit card or at the Bursar's Office with cash only. Both the North Garage and South Garage have automated pay stations starting on level 3 and above. The West garage has automated pay stations beginning on level 1. The automated pay stations accept coins, $1, $5, $10 bills and Visa/Mastercard credit cards. Single day permits are available in incremental rate of $1 per half hour with a maximum all-day rate of $8.00. Permits purchased after 5:30pm weekdays and anytime on weekends have a maximum daily rate of $5. Single day permits must be displayed on the vehicle's dashboard. Single day parking passes are valid only on level 3 and above of the North Garage and the South Garage. Single day permits are valid on all floors of the West Garage. Students may obtain a replacement for lost or stolen permits at the Parking Services Office. Stolen permits need to be reported to UPD before they can be replaced. A $10.00 replacement fee is charged for lost permits.
Parking is available at the SJSU Park & Ride Lot for the special daily rate of .50 cents per half hour with a maximum daily rate of $4.00 or $96.00 for a semester "PR" Park & Ride permit. Automated pay stations are available in this lot and they accept coins, $1 and $5 bills. Exact change is not required. The lot is located on South Seventh Street, (between Humboldt and Alma Streets) eight blocks south of the main campus across from Spartan Stadium. Free shuttle service is available to those who park at the Park & Ride Lot. Shuttles run approximately every 15 minutes, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and every 20 minutes from 4:30 p.m. to 10:20 p.m. Monday - Thursday, stopping at Duncan Hall. The Shuttle Service makes a loop around the University campus until 4;30pm after that pick up is only at Duncan Hall. Park and Ride is closed on Fridays and no shuttle service is available. As a result, Park & Ride permits are valid in the general parking areas of the main campus parking garages on Fridays and the weekends only. All valid main campus permits are also valid in the Park & Ride Lot.
Student carpool permits are valid in the reserved area on the top floor of the South Garage. Student carpool permits are also valid on level 2-H and above of the South Garage, the West Garage, or in the North Garage level 3 and above. Carpool permits are available in the Parking Services Office.
Employee carpool permits are also available and are valid in conjunction with a SJSU Employee permit. Employee carpool spaces are conveniently located on the 1st floor of the South Garage and the 2nd floor of the North Garage.
San Jose State University employees can purchase an "E" permit at the Parking Services Office or on-line with a valid SJSU identification card. New employees without an ID need to have a memo of verification from their department, or an appointment letter and present it at the Parking Services Office. Annual permits are also available to employees through payroll deduction. "E" permits are valid in all "E" spaces and areas designated as general parking. Employees may obtain replacements for lost, stolen, or damaged permits by completing a form available at the Parking Services Office. Stolen permits must be reported to UPD prior to replacement.
Employees, students and visitors with a disability who wish to park in a marked disabled parking space must also purchase and display either a valid single day or semester SJSU parking permit. Your SJSU parking permit must be used in conjunction with a valid Disabled DMV Placard (Red or Blue), to park in any disabled parking area on campus.
All SJSU employees and students with a disability should register with the Disability Resource Center (DRC). Additional services may be available to you.

Disabled Employees, Students or Visitors, who do not have an SJSU Permit, may purchase a Single Day Parking Permit at the Parking Services Office or at one of the automated pay stations in the North, South and West Garages. They are also available in Lot 4.
