Improvement Efforts

• All Parking Permits are available on-line.
• Parking fees at South Campus are reduced to $4 a day (or $96 for a semester permit)
• Our Alternative Transportation Program provides funding for subsidized Employee Van Pools, the DASH Shuttle, Hwy 17 Express and VTA EcoPass.
• Motorists without permits do not need to stop at the entrance of the parking garages to purchase day permits. This allows traffic to flow much more quickly into the garages.
• SJSU Faculty/Staff and on-campus residents will always find parking available in the South Garage – A portion of the roof is reserved for this use. Also note that the San Salvador Street ramp to the South Garage is reversed from 7:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. during the first two weeks of each semester so that everyone may enter the garage with out waiting in line on South 7th Street.
• Free Parking is provided at the South Campus Park & Ride Lot during the first two weeks of each semester to diminish traffic congestion at the main campus. (Free parking limited to Park & Ride Lot and first two weeks of each semester only)
• The City of San Jose agreed to redesignate curbside parking along the University perimeter as 3 hour student commuter parking. This adds about 75 spaces to our parking inventory.
• Citation review forms are available online .
• New automated pay stations are available in all three garages and Lot 4.
• Pay stations now accept $5, $10 bills and Visa/Mastercard credit cards.
• Single day permits are now available in half hour increments ($1 per 30 minutes).
• The single day maximum rate for evenings (after 5:30pm) and weekends has been reduced to $5.
• All three garages interior has been painted and new signage installed.
• All three garages have had new brighter more energy efficient lighting installed.
• All surface lots have been resurfaced and restriped.
• Lot 4 was added back to the parking inventory after the modulars were removed from that area. This allowed us to convert some of the parking in the North Garage back to general/student parking.
• The University is a partner with the City of San Jose to install a traffic signal at South Seventh Street and East San Salvador Street to improve the flow of traffic.
