First and Third Class Bulk Mail is processed daily for USPS acceptance.

All bulk mail must be in Mail Services by 12:00 noon for same day processing.

Standard (Bulk) Mail Letters

Instructions for sorting machinable standard (bulk) mail letters for SJSU Mail Services and USPS acceptance are as follows:

• All bulk mail letter pieces must be sealed (if using envelopes), or taped or tri-folded.
• All bulk mail letter pieces must have an SJSU return address (no street addresses) and must have return service requested 1/2 an inch below the return address.
• All bulk mail letter pieces must have the permit #816 indicia.
• Sort pieces into ascending or descending order of zip codes.
• Separate and place all out-of-state pieces in a USPS tub, tray or other container.
• Separate and place all 900 to 939 zip code groups in a USPS tub, tray or other container.
• Separate and place all 940 to 960 zip code groups in a USPS tub, tray or other container.
• Separate and place all 950 zip code group in a USPS tub, tray or other container.
• Separate and place all 951 zip code group in a USPS tub, tray or other container.
• When using trays issued by Mail Services, make sure that all the items are facing the tray with the label holder.

Standard (Bulk) Mail Flats

All mailings larger than the maximum letter size are considered flat mail. All flat mailings must follow the flat size rules and regulations stipulated by USPS. For details, please see USPS Flats Information or contact Mail Services.

Instructions for sorting standard (bulk) mail flats for SJSU Mail Services and USPS acceptance are as follows:

• All mailings must be in zip code (ascending or descending) order.
• Separate and place all 950 zip code group in a USPS tub, tray or other container.
• Separate and place all 951 zip code group in a USPS tub, tray or other container.
• Place all other zip codes in (ascending or descending) order.
