The main goal of this course is to improve your skills in critical thinking. At school, at work, in the newspaper, in conversations with friends, we are all presented with claims about what is true and how things should be done. In this class, you will learn to recognize arguments and evaluate whether they are strong or weak. You will develop your skills at presenting your own convincing, coherent arguments.
As a history course, our subject matter will the diverse human past and historians’ efforts to better understand this past. We will apply critical thinking skills as we assess the artifacts and documents our ancestors left behind. This class will be very hands-on, with most of our time spent on practicing the skills you are learning, whether through our textbooks or examples from the media, films, etc.
