Anu Vuorikoski, MBA

Anu has a deep understanding of global business and real world finance. She loves teaching and wants her students to transition successfully to jobs after graduation. Her classes employ the tools used by employers, such as WebEx, MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word at minimum).

Past students/other speakers may come to class and she incorporates some storytelling, exercises, simulation and games into classes whenever possible. Her classes can be challenging for students who are not prepared for a class that expects pre-requisite class material to not require much review time even if students took the class a few semesters ago, and Excel use for all homework and exams.

Prior to teaching, Anu had over twenty years of experience working with, for or at the "C-suite", in finance, logistics, strategic planning, business development (M&A). Her employers included Vision Capital (CFO), Metorex International (CFO), Raychem Corporation (various), Alta Bates Corporation (Director of Business Development) and more.

Earlier she worked in consulting with Touche Ross & Co (now Deloitte Consulting), McKinsey & Co, and Bain & Company - she was the 6th person in the, then, new Bain London office, and also worked for the First National Bank of Boston and the World Bank.

As an independent consultant, she has advised numerous start-ups and SMBs on strategic planning, business plans and finance. She is an active entrepreneurship supporter and since 2011 has also served the Alliance of CEOs as a Group Director.

She lives in the Sierra Foothills, where she returned to an "encore" role as Treasurer for PlacerArts in summer 2012 for 2 years. She chaired the new Internal Affairs Team which covered finance, facilities, IT, and HR. She has served on other Boards and governance roles. She plays lots of hard running singles tennis and tries to keep age at bay by working out with a trainer.

Anu received her MBA from Harvard Business School. In 2013, she was named a W50 honoree - women making a difference in Northern California and the world - by the Harvard Business School Association of Northern California. W50 celebrated 50 years of women at HBS. Her BA is from Williams College. During her corporate career she earned various professional certifications, such as CMA, CPIM, CIRM and PMP and is a firm advocate for certification.

Teaching Finance at SJSU since Spring1998, Anu has taught BUS 173B (Case class), 173A (Intermediate), 177 (International) and 170 (Fundamentals) for A&F and BUS 182 for O&M (Business Plans) as well as MBA 270 (Intro), 274 (High Tech Financial Analysis) and 275 (High Tech Cases). In AY 11-12 she also served as Associate Director for Silicon Valley Center for Entrepreneurship and has served on other committees.

Previous to SJSU, she taught in training programs for her employers and certification exam prep courses for APICS and spoke at conferences. Her first teaching role was as TA for Applied Statistics in College.
