WSCA 2014 Feb 14-18 Anaheim, CA Communication Concepts Across Cultures: Study Abroad in Communication Studies Overview Study abroad programs are a high-impact educational practice that allow for meaningful transfer in multiple ways. By studying abroad our students are physically transferred from one geographic region to another. The people, places, and experiences encountered while abroad transfer local knowledge, values, concepts, and ways of being back to the students. Instructors creatively transfer classroom practices from their home institutions to the study abroad location. Upon their return, students transfer their own transformational experience back to their classrooms, lives, and careers. In this roundtable we will facilitate discussion on critical aspects of short-term Communication study abroad courses. After offering a brief overview of our topics, we will encourage questions and conversation on how study abroad courses work from start to finish.
