Description
The course covers the religious thought and practice of China's Great Traditions (Buddhist, Daoist, and Confucian) as well as their impact on Chinese folk religion and other aspects of Chinese culture (politics, the arts, social customs, etc.). In studying these traditions, the course emphasizes the historical developments as well as contemporary changes, especially in China under Communist Party rule since 1949. More than half of the course is devoted to the study of religion in China today.
