Early Educator Preparation Program Collaborative Members

Katherine Moore-Wines is a faculty member at West Valley College and chair of the Child Studies Department. She has been in the field of early care and education since 1975.  She has a B.S. in Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and an M.A. from the Merrill-Palmer Institute of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She has taught and directed infant/toddler and preschool programs in San Jose, taught high school in Detroit Public Schools, and has been teaching adult students in job training and the community college in California for 30 years.  She has been active in the community participating in professional organizations; City of San Jose Early Care and Education Commission, the Santa Clara County Local Early Care and Education Planning Council,  member of NAEYC and a past college representative for the E3 Institute Santa Clara County CARES Program.

Camilla Weiberg is a faculty member at Mission College in Santa Clara and chair of the Child Development Department. Camilla teaches primarily core courses, administration and observation/assessment courses as well as practicum. Developing a well trained and skilled work force is a primary interest. As a member of the Early Educator Preparation Program Collaborative, she is looking forward to assisting in developing a standard of skills in all curriculum to best prepare students to transfer and gain degrees in higher education.

Dr. Monette Reyes is a faculty member at San Jose City College in the Early Childhood Education Department. Monette’s teaching and research interests include Multicultural and Anti-Bias Education specifically focusing on ways to support the children and their families, the teachers, staff and programs, as well the principles and applications of an Anti-Bias Curriculum (ABC) or approach. She is also interested in children’s play development and behavior as influenced/affected by race, culture, ethnicity, gender, abilities, economic class and family structure. As the course instructor of the Child Studies Student Teaching class for 19 years, she focused her efforts on acquiring quality practicum sites in the community for student teachers including conducting site observations/evaluations and, interviewing directors and prospective mentor teachers. Monette’s other interests also include the study of children’s emerging literacy skills and children’s literature which she teaches classes on in the ECE Program at SJCC. As a member of the Early Educator Preparation Program Collaborative, she is looking forward to taking part in discussions on student practica experiences including identification of quality sites, development of student teaching skills and ways to support student teachers’ transition into the workforce. Also, she is looking forward to a string of discussions on identifying ECE program pathways, career options, and ways to increase recruitment efforts as well as retention rates. Lastly, her being able to network and collaborate with other local community college faculty on EC curriculum development focused on current student population, needs and expectations.

Nicole Kerbey is a faculty member at Foothill College and chair of the Child Development and Education Department. Nicole’s teaching interests include establishing quality online teaching practices as standards in the field, as the demand for online learning grows. Her research interests include behavior management techniques and their application in today’s schools, and the effects of nature on the child. As a member of the Early Educator Preparation Program Collaborative, she is looking forward to collaborating with colleagues in the field, sharing what she sees at the community college level, and learning new ways of supporting students in their educational goals while simultaneously preparing them for the workforce.

Dr. Li Wei Sun is a faculty member at De Anza College and chair of the Child Development and Education Department.

Nanette Wylde is a faculty member at Mission College in the Child Development Department.
