ARTH 183B: Islamic Art Part 1 - 650-1250 CE
Time: Fall 2014 MW 4:30-5:45 p.m.
Location: Art Bldg. 141
The varied art and architecture called Islamic has been created by artists from many lands in response to the faith of Islam. We will focus on works of architecture, painting, ceramics, metalwork, woodwork, stonework, glass, and textiles, including rugs, of the periods from the 7th century to the 12th century CE (from the early Islamic period through the Seljuks). Class format will include image lectures, class discussions, and oral presentations. In lieu of a term paper, artists may reproduce a work of art from this time period.
