Study Abroad in Ireland English 10 Great Works of Literature

Location: SJSU, Ireland, Northern Ireland. Dublin, Galway, & Belfast
This class is designed to explore Ireland’s rich literary heritage, with a focus on Ireland’s history of using language and literature to define cultural values and fight for peace and social justice. Known historically as “the Isle of Saints and Scholars,” Ireland is also famous for having produced some of the greatest literature in the world. Against a turbulent, often violent history of struggle against internal strife and oppression from foreign invaders, Irish writers have fought back, forging their own identity and telling their own story by writing great poetry, fiction, plays, and songs. Students will read some of the best works from this literary treasury while experiencing contemporary Irish culture and exploring historic sites, vibrant city life, and gorgeous landscape.•All majors welcome. ****No prerequisites ***Earn 3 units.
