Dr. Lee conducts research in the area of water resources engineering. His major focus is on the sustainability of water resources and drinking water infrastructure management.
Since joining the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2008, Dr. Lee has secured grant funding of close to $400k to support his research from organizations such as the National Science Foundation, the California Water Service Company and Hewlett-Packard. Dr. Lee has published articles in a number of highly respected journals in the area of water resources engineering, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management, the Journal of the American Water Works Association, International Water Association: Water Supply, and the Journal of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has also made over 30 presentations at professional society meetings, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Water Resources Association (AWRA), American Water Works Association (AWWA), Frontiers in Education (FIE), and NSF conferences, of which over 15 were later published in the conference proceedings, and has delivered invited talks to various professional research societies. At SJSU, Dr. Lee has taught the courses Intro to Hydraulics & Hydrology, Engineering Hydrology, Hydraulic Design, Modeling in Water Resources Engineering and Sustainable Water Resources Engineering.
Dr. Lee is a registered Professional Engineer of Civil Engineering in the state of California and was selected as the 2011 ASCE Fellow for Excellence in Civil Engineering Education. He was also the recipient of 2013 SJSU’s Young Investigator Award in recognition of his scholarly efforts.
