We will examine the various dimensions of an effective learning environment within a diverse, multicultural, multi-linguistic classroom using a developmental perspective. The theoretical base will draw heavily from the field of social-psychology and educational psychology. The content includes: 1) study of the classroom domains of content, conduct, and covenant (both with students and their families); 2) the inter-connectedness among these domains; 3) the usefulness of this framework in creating an effective learning environment for whole class and individual students; and 4) its application to the evaluation of behavior management programs.
