This is the second of a three-semester course sequence in biochemistry intended to provide a thorough introduction to this discipline. This semester's material will focus on intermediary metabolism. Major topics include an overview of metabolic pathways, the catabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids and nucleosides and the biosynthetic routes involving these nutrients. The mechanisms by which these pathways are regulated so as to maximize the physiological welfare of the organism will also be discussed.
