Description

According to the catalog, Data Mining is used to discover patterns and relationships in data. Emphasis is on large complex data sets such as those in very large databases or through web mining. Topics: data visualization, association rules, clustering, and various modern classification techniques This course examines and explores the use of data mining techniques in business applications. The course surveys a number of data mining techniques, and demonstrates how the techniques are used in conjunction with a Micro-soft Excel based software application (XL-Miner). A framework for determining which data mining technique should be employed for a give data-base type is developed. Students will be required to do a team Data Mining Project on an approved data-set and present it to their peers. Lectures will be augmented with current articles on Data Mining from a variety of publication sources.
