Rick Smyth is a vice president for Franklin Templeton Investments in the Municipal Bond Department. Mr. Smyth specializes in the analysis of housing development projects, mortgage-backed transactions, the waste services industry, and insurance companies. He has covered municipal bonds, mortgage backed securities, and corporate credit. He also analyzes the United States economy and various regional economies. In addition, he participates on the Fixed Income Policy Committee that evaluates the Global Economic outlook with peers across groups in San Mateo, New York and London. Mr. Smyth's previous coverage crosses investment grade and high yield markets including utilities and project financing.
Mr. Smyth completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California. He earned his M.B.A. in general management with concentrations in finance, strategy, organizational behavior, and international business from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also attended the Directors College executive program at the Stanford Law School. Mr. Smyth is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a member of the CFA Institute currently serving on the Charter Holder Review Committee, and a former board member of the CFA Society of San Francisco (CFASF). In addition, he is a member of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts, a former board member of the California Society of Municipal Analysts, and a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors.
