COMM 101C Introduction to Communication Studies

The University catalog describes this course as an overview of the contemporary field of Communication Studies based on a survey of the theoretical and practical responses to communication problems arising from changing social contexts. More specifically, this course is designed to introduce you to theories and research methods used by members of the Communication Studies discipline in building a body of knowledge regarding human communication. In choosing a Communication Studies major, you have become a new member of this discipline, and this course is intended to prepare you to review, critique, and contribute to that body of knowledge. You will be introduced to what scholars in the field study, assumptions guiding our work, practices in which we engage, and ways in which we share knowledge.
