SOCS/HIST/GEOG/ANTH 139 - The World in Historical and Social Science Perspectives

Description

This course is an interdisciplinary investigation into aspects of World Civilizations from the dawn of humankind until the end of the 18th century. Topics covered will vary, but may include early human societies of the Paleolithic and Neolithic; civilizations of the Bronze Age; Classical Mythology and Archaeology; the ancient Maya and civilizations of the New World; the Silk Road; Medieval Europe; the Age of Exploration; Colonialism. Differing cultures and ideologies, and the impact of cross-cultural interaction will also be explored as a recurring theme of the course, as well as the perspectives through which we understand the cultures of the past.
