Doctor of Philosophy, Computer Science, Indiana University - Bloomington, 2010
I am an assistant professor in the Department of Management Information Systems at
San Jose State University and my academic and professional background is in business
and technology. I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Indiana University in 2010
(An Adaptable Repository for Complex Scientific Metadata), and prior to starting at San Jose State in 2013 I was a post-doctoral researcher
at the Data to Insight Center at Indiana University with a focus on the use of metadata and provenance in the management
of large scientific data sets. In the Fall of 2013 I joined the MIS Department here
at San Jose State as part of the University's multi-disciplinary cluster initiative in Big Data and Cybersecurity. My research interests are in Big Data, distributed systems, data wrangling, metadata
and data governance, and teaching Big Data.
My prior academic experience includes a Masters in Computer Science from DePaul University in Chicago with a concentration in databases (while I was working at Price Waterhouse), and a Masters in Accountancy ('86) and B.S. in Accounting ('84) from Southern Illinois University.
Prior to pursuing my Ph.D. (my midlife crisis), I worked for over 15 years in software development and professional services at Ernst & Young, Price Waterhouse, and Arthur Andersen; including software programming, software design, product management, and client management.
