AdvisementAll majors receive advisement prior to registration, and on a regular basis thereafter. During advisement, advisors will explain the requirements for the major, discuss in more depth students’ interests and goals, and provide more detailed information concerning our courses, and direct students towards courses we think will best suit their interests and goals. Students are also informed about activities in the department such as the philosophy club and its various activities; the ethics bowl debate team, our colloquium series as well as tutoring and teaching assistantship opportunities. We encourage students to take part in our extra-curricular activities, as we would like to see students’ involvement with philosophy to extend beyond the classroom. Our doors are always open to students and they often approach professors with whom they feel most comfortable with a variety of issues, both professional and personal. Some of our majors continue to graduate school and we are very much involved in their application process as we also provide counseling regarding graduate schools and professional careers. |
